In Hotshift, one button does two things at once. Hold it down and you rise and glow hot, let go and you sink and turn cold. Orange gates only let you through when you're hot, blue ones only when you're cold. Because rising always means heating up, being high and cold is a tricky puzzle, and that is exactly the whole game.

You hold down the mouse button, your finger or any key to rise and let go to sink.
